This is an important article to read.  It is short and informative.  His point about savings for medical expenses and college is spot on.  However, I am sure some experts would suggest that the downfall in insurance industries and pension funds is somewhat offset by the increases in other industries such as real estate.  My community in Colorado has seen significant rise in property values over the past few years.

Read a lot in these uncertain times.  Find informative sources that you trust and make the best decision you can.  No matter what all the experts say, no one knows what will happen in the future.

Happy House Hunting.
